Bowls & Vases

Hardwoods are sawn into a lid blank and a bowl blank from a single piece of wood.  The lid and bowl are created by turning each piece on the lathe.  A tiny hole is drilled in the lid for each open area of the design.  A thin scroll saw blade is passed through each hole to cut and create the design.  A signature of these bowls is the smooth and lustrous finish accomplished by sanding, oiling, buffing and waxing.

I make my Ikebana inspired vases by laminating various hardwoods, turning them on a lathe, and then drilling a hole for a metal pin cup which holds water and a flower.  Vases are sanded, finished with varnish oil, and then  buffed and waxed.

Ornaments

Hardwoods are sawn into thin planks, planed smooth, and cut to length.  A tiny hole is drilled for each open area of the design.  A thin scroll saw blade is passed through each hole to cut and create the design.  A signature of these delicate ornaments is the smooth and lustrous finish accomplished by sanding, oiling, buffing and waxing.
